Motorists planning to drive between Revelstoke and Golden this Tuesday afternoon will have to adjust their plans, as the Trans-Canada Highway will be closed for eight hours due to incoming snowfall.
Highway 1 will close from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. PST on Jan. 6 between the two communities, as Parks Canada plans avalanche control work in Rogers Pass to keep the national route safe and clear.

No detour will be available for drivers, and eastbound commercial vehicles will be held farther back in Malakwa for the duration of the closure, according to DriveBC.
The closure announcement comes as Environment and Climate Change Canada warns of 15 to 25 centimetres of snowfall hitting Highway 1 between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, including over Revelstoke.
Snow is expected to begin coming down late Monday night, Jan. 5, continuing into Wednesday morning, Jan. 7.
“Snow, at times heavy, will ease early Wednesday morning as the system passes,” the federal agency advises. “Travel will likely be challenging. Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”
