Shots fired inside Surrey home send 1 person to hospital

One man was taken to hospital with an apparent gunshot wound after a shooting in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood Thursday.

Surrey Police Service is investigating the shooting, which happened Thursday (Jan. 1) around 11:45 p.m.

Police responded to reports of shots fired inside a home in the area of 140B Street and 59 Avenue, an SPS release noted.

SPS officers arrived on scene and found an injured man who was transported to hospital with an apparent gunshot wound, the release said, adding he was reported to be in stable condition. A second man at the scene was arrested.

SPS’s Serious Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation.

Although the investigation is in its early stages, this incident in not believed to be connected to extortion, police said.
