Application deadline extended for Art of Upcycling Exhibition in Pitt Meadows

The deadline to apply to be part of the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery’s Art of Upcycling Exhibition has been extended.

Artists can now put in their application until Sunday, Jan. 25.

This exhibition celebrates artists’ ingenuity of transforming discarded or waste materials into artwork that gain a new life, purpose and beauty.

All work in the show must be for sale and created primarily from upcycled materials – only 10 per cent of new materials may be used when necessary for the structural integrity of the piece.

All pieces must be exhibition-ready with hanging hardware included with wall-mounted works. Sculptural or 3D work must be able to stand safely and independently, with or without additional supports.

In addition to the application form, artists must also include a curriculum vitae, an artist biography, and an artist statement.

All applications must be in by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25.

Artists should then expect an email about the status of their application by Friday, Feb. 6.

Accepted works can be dropped off at the gallery from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Sunday, March 2, to Tuesday, March 4.

The Art of Upcycling Exhibition runs from Saturday, March 14, to Sunday, April 19.

Submissions are also accepted by the City of Pitt Meadows and the Pitt Meadows Art Gallery on an on-going basis for its exhibitions and small dedicated Gallery Shop. The gallery is committed to supporting local and regional artists and artisans, with 70 per cent of the sale of a piece going to the artist who created it and 30 per cent to the gallery.

In addition to offering a beautiful exhibition space, the gallery provides a variety of services, including staff to curate and display the artwork, volunteers to manage daily operations, a point-of-sale system, coverage of credit card fees, packing materials, labels, and both print and digital promotional materials.

The gallery also handles marketing and social media, hosts an opening reception, and offers a virtual component for each exhibition.
