Man charged in 2020 homicide of Coquitlam man whose body was discovered in Maple Ridge

Charges have been laid in relation to the homicide of a 24-year-old whose body was found in Maple Ridge.

Investigators with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, (IHIT), arrested 31-year-old Alan Mohammed Taheri of Port Coquitlam for the homicide of Edi Bogere.

(Previous stories have referred to the homicide victim as Edi Bogere-Nyigwo.)

Police believe Bogere was last seen leaving his Coquitlam home on the evening of Dec. 27, 2019.

His body was discovered in a vacant forested property in the 24500-block of Lougheed Highway on Jan. 11, 2020.

Ridge Meadows RCMP were initially called to the scene and upon examination determined Bogere’s death to be suspicious.

IHIT was then called to investigate and worked in partnership with the Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Coquitlam RCMP and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to further the investigation.

Taheri was arrested on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025, and is being charged with one count of second-degree murder with a firearm and one count of indignity to human remains against Mr. Taheri.

“Homicide investigations can take years of hard work and patience, and this is just one example of the meticulousness that homicide work entails,” noted Supt. Mandeep Mooker, Officer-In-Charge of IHIT.

“These are complex investigations and reaching the charge approval stage doesn’t happen overnight. We commend the investigators for their persistence, and we thank Mr. Bogere’s family for their continued trust and support throughout this investigation,” said Mooker, who added that no further information will be released, as this matter is now before the court.
