Guns, drugs, cash seized in Kamloops gang bust

Local RCMP and the province’s gang-busting police unit have disrupted violent gang activity and a drug trafficking operation in Kamloops.

The Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of B.C. (CFSEU-BC) Uniform Gang Enforcement Team worked with Kamloops RCMP from Dec. 9 to 12 to conduct a targeted, intelligence-led operation.

Over the four days, the gang enforcement team’s officers were strategically placed throughout Kamloops with a particular focus on the North Shore and other areas identified through ongoing intelligence and community safety concerns.

The coordinated efforts resulted in the seizure of significant amounts of illicit drugs, firearms, and cash believed to be linked to organized crime.

In all, 11 illegally possessed firearms were seized as well as 1.75 kilograms of illicit drugs, including suspected cocaine, fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine. Additional weapons and cash believed to be associated with drug trafficking were seized.

“This operation highlights the strength of our partnership with the Kamloops RCMP and our shared commitment to community safety,” said Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha, media relations officer for CFSEU-BC. “By removing illegal firearms and toxic drugs from our streets, we reduce the risk of violence and disrupt criminal networks that prey on vulnerable individuals. CFSEU-BC will continue working closely with police agencies across the province to target those engaged in gang and drug-related activity.”

Supt. Jeff Pelley, Officer in Charge of the Kamloops RCMP Detachment added: “Through coordinated efforts and intelligence sharing between the Kamloops RCMP Crime Reduction Unit and CFSEU’s UGET officers, we continue to leverage every opportunity to disrupt those intent on causing harm to our communities, through violence and illicit drugs.”
