More strong winds are expected in the Lower Mainland on Thursday (Dec. 18).
Environment Canada released a special weather statement for parts of the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver warnng of strong southwesterly winds from late this afternoon through the early evening.
According to the statement, additional tree damage and utility outages are possible due to saturated soils and continued rainfall.
“An approaching low pressure centre will track across the south coast this afternoon. In its wake, strong southwesterly winds 50 km/h gusting to 80 will develop late this afternoon through early this evening. Winds will gradually ease late this evening,” Environment Canada said.
Per the statement, parks and forests are likely to sustain some damage while utility outages also could occur.
Environment Canada also warned of injury risks from flying or falling debris.
