Northern B.C. is getting its own gang enforcement team as organized crime continues to affect the region.
The North District Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (ND UGET) will be dedicated to disrupting gang activity and supporting law enforcement, achieved by:
• Targeting violent offenders and gang associates,
• Intercepting drugs, weapons and criminal proceeds,
• Supporting local police through coordinated intelligence sharing and
• Enhancing community safety through focused suppression efforts.
The launch of the ND UGET was announced in a Dec. 16 press release by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC).
“Tackling organized crime and gang violence is a top priority for our government and the CFSEU-BC is leading provincial efforts to coordinate intelligence, disrupt criminal networks and protect communities in British Columbia,” said Nina Krieger, minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General.
The release said drug trafficking routes have expanded and weapons are being moved through Northern B.C., with remote communities increasingly being targeted.
Between 2020 and 2024, the CFSEU-BC’s existing UGET was deployed to Northern B.C. 28 times. This represents 26 per cent of all UGET deployments. Since September 2025, the UGET has already been sent north six times.
The launch of a team dedicated to the north meets a growing demand for sustained enforcement, the release said. The plan is to have the ND UGET operational in 2026 .
Between January 2023 and September 2025, the existing UGET seized over $1 million in illicit proceeds, 192 firearms and 194 kilograms of illegal drugs, among other items.
