$448K raised in 64th annual Knights of Columbus BC charity appeal

B.C.’s knight in shining armour.

The Knights of Columbus BC State Council wrapped its 64th annual charity appeal this weekend.

Held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vancouver, the appeal grossed more than $448,000 that will go to the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids program, Special Olympics, hospital foundations, local food banks, and other organizations to help support people in need.

Archie Calaguas from New Westminster took home the grand prize of a 2025 Ford Maverick XLT AWD as well as Julie Pinette from Williams Lake, Keith Bepple from Kelowna, and Flordeliza Legaspi from Victoria shared the remaining $40,000 in cash prizes. An additional 10 participants won $1,000 each as part of the early bird prizes.

The Knights of Columbus are well known for their charitable works throughout Canada and around the world. In 2023, members worldwide donated $190 million to charity and devoted 47 million hours to volunteer service. Its winter coats program has distributed close to two million coats since 2009, including 4,000 coats this winter for children in B.C. and Yukon.

“Charity is at the core of what we do and who we are,” said Richard Lee Wah, general agent for Knights of Columbus in Abbotsford. “Like our members, our insurance professionals are driven to give of themselves to support those in need. This spirit drives our work to help members protect their loved ones through insurance, but also anyone who faces a need in our communities. We couldn’t be happier to support this fundraiser and look forward to next year’s campaign.”
