A 35-year-old man was arrested in relation to the fatal stabbing of a man in Abbotsford on Sunday morning (Dec. 14), but no charges have yet been laid.
A press release on Monday (Dec. 15) from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) states that investigators are still determining the man’s involvement in the stabbing and the circumstances surrounding the death.
Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT said the initial investigation indicates the stabbing was a “targeted and isolated incident with no ongoing risk to the public.”
“The scene remains contained and you can expect investigators to be there for some time as we execute searches and interview all the witnesses,” Fong said.
“It is essential for us to determine the exact role and involvement of the individuals at the residence, and to corroborate those details.”
The Abbotsford Police Department previously reported that they were called at around 11 a.m. on Sunday for a reported stabbing at a residence in the 33900 block of McCrimmon Drive.
When officers arrived, they located a 41-year-old man who had critical injuries. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene and transport to the hospital, the man died from his injuries, police said.
They said several people were identified at the scene and one man was arrested.
IHIT is now leading the investigation in partnership with the Abbotsford Police major crimes unit, forensic identification services and the BC Coroners Service.
