Snowfall warning issued for B.C.’s Cariboo, Chilcotin, Columbia Shuswap

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Friday, Dec. 12 affecting the Cariboo and Chilcotin, including Williams Lake and Quesnel.

The warning is due to a weather system moving through B.C.’s interior bringing snow extending to areas including Lac La Hache in the south, Strathnaver in the north, and Nemiah Valley and Anahim Lake to the west.

Snowfall may be heavy at times, with about 10 cm expected for the Cariboo, up to 15 cm for the Chilcotin.

The warning is in effect until Friday evening, and visibility will likely be reduced at times.

Environment Canada reminds drivers to turn on their lights, slow down and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

Drive BC is warning of slippery sections and compact snow on highways across the Cariboo-Chilcotin, with limited visibility on Highways 97 and 26 as well as Nazko Road near Quesnel.

A snowy day is also anticipated along Highway 1 in the Columbia Shuswap.

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning early Friday, Dec. 12, for the Trans-Canada south of Sicamous. Up to 15 centimetres is expected throughout the day from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, due to a weather system moving across the Interior.

Snowfall is expected to ease up late this evening.
