Body found in Vernon identified months later as missing Penticton man

A body found in Vernon earlier this summer has now been identified as a man missing from Penticton.

The RCMP E Division says Mauricio Gudino-Figueroa was located deceased and his remains were only recently identified.

“The investigation is with the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit (SED MCU) who are working with the BC Coroners Service in relation to this death investigation, it remains open and ongoing,” said Cpl. Brett Urano, division media relations officer. “We are still investigating the circumstances around the death at this time.”

Mauricio Gudiño was reported missing on social media in May of this year.

“He lives in Penticton and has been missing for two weeks,” a post from a Mexican resident reads in a Penticton Facebook group.

A separate post shared on a Kelowna group the next day of a Missing Person poster said he was last seen April 22 around Kelowna and Penticton.

Gudino was described as 42-years-old, five-foot-seven-inches tall and 200 pounds.

RCMP confirm he was missing from Penticton.
