The sweet sounds of the holidays filled the air at Maple Ridge Secondary for the school’s Christmas choral performance.
About 100 people packed the choir room to hear the Maple Ridge Secondary School Choir sing carols, in different languages, for their presentation called “Merry & Bright”.
Directed by Claire Oliverio, the Crescente Junior Choir, the Aurora Senior Concert Choir, the Novus Bass Chorus, the Caelum Treble Chorus, and the Silva Chamber Choir, took turns singing a variety of Christmas songs including: “Pasko Na Naman”, a Filipino Christmas Carol; “O Tannenbaum”, with lyrics in German; “Like It’s Christmas” by Joseph Jonas, “Veni, Emmanuel!”, a 15th Century French melody, and “Below the Mistletoe” by Jay Althouse.
And there was an audience sing-along for the classic “Winter Wonderland”.
Special guests were the Alouette Elementary Choir, directed by Aimee Oliverio.
The Maple Ridge Secondary School Choral Department has participated in the Phoenix Chamber Experience, the Whistler Con Brio Music Festival, and the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, where they earned an invitation to participate int he Performing Arts of B.C. Provincials and MusicFest Toronto Nationals.
They are currently fundraising for a grand drape which costs $12,000, a new mixing board which costs $5,000, $2,000 for bus costs for trips, and $1,000 for a choir camera.
The next concert for the choir will be taking place Thursday, Feb. 19, and Friday, Feb. 20.
