Community comes out in full support of Winter Wonders

Hundreds of people turned out for the Winter Wonders Celebration, a fundraiser for Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services.

More than 300 people turned out for this years event on Saturday, Nov. 29, which included an artisan market, live performances, children’s entertainment, a food truck, and the community services’ signature event, the Shop With A Purpose silent auction.

And, between the silent auction, other fundraising initiatives – like the giving tree, entry-by-donation, hot chocolate and treat sales, Snowflakes of Kindness, direct donations, and a lively 50/50 raffle – the community raised more than $13,250.

“Winter Wonders proves that when our community comes together, something magical happens. The support we received this weekend helps fuel the work we do all year long,” said Myriah McGill, marketing and communications manager with Community Services, who noted Milwaukee tools donated by Lordco Auto Parts attracted the highest bids of the day, while gift certificates, gift baskets, and tech items were among the most sought-after auction prizes.

Community Services offers 32 programs for early childhood, children and youth, family, clinical counselling, legal and victims services, mental health and supports, and services for seniors.

The Community Services Council was certified as a registered charity by Revenue Canada in 1971 and the vision at that time was to act as an umbrella organization to help reduce costs, pool resources, and increase cooperation and collaboration between the member organizations.

Community Services Council gradually became a multi-service agency, under a single governing body.

There are now about 90 staff and 100 volunteers with the agency.

Last year they helped 25,800 people in the community, performing 1,523 phone and in-person wellness checks, and they delivered 15,802 meals to seniors.

“Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services relies on generous supporters like you to provide critical programs and services for those who need it most,” added McGill.
