With the opening of new accommodation with room for hundreds of staff, Revelstoke’s resort is aiming to reduce stress on the local rental market while also better integrating its workforce in the community.
Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR) has welcomed its next seasonal cohort of staff into its 92-unit, elevator-accessible employee housing building at 3128 Camozzi Rd., situated at the back end of the resort’s base.
The east side of the building fits 25 one-bed and 67 multi-bed units for more than 200 staff, all fully furnished, while the west wing contains an annex of dozens of office spaces that RMR’s operations staff will work out of.
“This is a huge step forward in enhancing the employee experience,” RMR posted. “This new space is designed to support our staff, strengthen our community, and help shape the future of living and working in Revelstoke.”
Ahead of the 2025-26 winter season opening Saturday, Dec. 6, the rooms had already been quickly filling up since mid-November.
“We’ve got 202 people residing here already,” RMR operations vice-president Peter Nielsen told Black Press Media during a tour Wednesday, Dec. 3. Now, combined with existing staff accommodations at the foot of the resort, “we can host over 400 people right on the site.”
He said plans for the building had been in the works for four or five years, with construction taking about two years.
“It’s a real game changer for us, really,” he said. “The level of service we hope to deliver, you need to be well rested.”
For RMR employees, this housing will be available year-round, at all-inclusive prices starting from $600 per unit monthly. Nielsen added that the capacity in some rooms to sleep as many as four people helps keep these prices down.
“It’s fairly similar to what we’ve been charging at other units,” he said, though noting roughly half of RMR’s staff have to otherwise be put up downtown or elsewhere. “It’s a significant thing for our team, taking some pressure off the market. On our side alone, it’s 400 people who aren’t in the rental market.”
The resort employees between 700 and 800 staff, many of which work for its Snow School, lift operations, ski patrol and hospitality services.
Along with nearly 100 units at RMR’s newest accommodation, the new building includes a laundry room, gym and gear storage space for residents’ ski and snowboard equipment.
“For people in Revelstoke, gear storage is a big thing,” Nielsen noted.
The opening of the accommodation is also a win for the resort community as a whole, Nielsen said, making it easier for employees to integrate in RMR’s events and culture.
“As much as they’re staff, we want them to remember that they’re members of the community too,” he added, saying RMR is working to plan more “outdoor living opportunities” that employees can integrate through during the 2025-26 season.
While this latest employee housing complex was risen from the ground up, Nielsen remembers the land historically served as the base of Revelstoke’s original municipally run ski hill.
“With the best chairlift name ever,” he recalled. “The Powder Slug Express.”
