‘Complete surprise’: B.C. winery named top 50 vineyard in the world

West Kelowna’s Mission Hill Family Estate has been recognized as one of the world’s 50 best vineyards.

A voting academy made up of more than 700 select sommeliers, travel and wine tourism experts, and wine trade specialists from WilliamReed recented released its newest world’s 50 list, with Mission Hill being the only Canadian winery to make it. To be specific, the winery was listed at 45 on the top 50 list.

“This stunning recognition was a complete surprise and a confirmation of the potential I saw for the Okanagan region when we pioneered upscale winemaking there over 40 years ago” said Anthony von Mandl, Mission Hill Family Estate owner.

This honour adds to a string of major wins for Mission Hill Family Estate, including Canada’s first 100-point red wine for the 2020 Oculus and an unprecedented six-time Canadian winery of the year award.

“This recognition underscores our team’s commitment, passion and determination to make distinctive, terroir-driven expressions that define the Okanagan Valley in a glass” said chief winemaker Taylor Whelan.
