Cornhole, 2 other sports added to 55+ BC Games for 2026

More than two dozen sports and activities will be played during the 55+ BC Games in Kamloops next September, event organizers announced Wednesday, Dec. 3.

Close to 2,500 competitors aged 55 and older are expected in 27 events, including three demonstration sports new for 2026 (5K trail run, cornhole and gravel bike racing).

Participant registration starts March 16, 2026, for the next 55+ BC Games, billed as “an important part of the B.C. sport system and the largest annual multi-sport gathering event in the province.”

The 24 other sports/activities for 2026 are 8-ball pool, snooker, cycling, horseshoes, pickleball, table tennis, archery, darts, ice curling, soccer, tennis, badminton, disc golf, hockey, slo-pitch, track & field, carpet bowling, 5-pin bowling, lawn bowling, triathlon, cribbage, golf, mountain bike racing and swimming.

The annual Games were last held in Nanaimo in 2025, and Surrey will be the host city in 2027, according to a 2022 post on the city’s website (surrey.ca).

Funded primarily by the BC Seniors Games Society and provincial government, the Games offer an opportunity to “celebrate sport and active living with other participants from across the province and experience the hospitality of the host city,” a news release trumpets.
