“It’s the world’s largest generosity movement and I’ll be taking this amazing flag around to the different nonprofits and charities and just giving them a shout out today,” explained Martin, a Giving Tuesday Canada leader who is also with Langley Gives.
Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping events, Giving Tuesday is a global charitable event for charities, businesses and individuals in Langley to join forces and share a commitment to support local causes that are making a difference.
“Giving Tuesday is about giving of your time, giving of a smile and just being in that giving spirit,” Martin remarked.
“I am so happy I live in the Langleys. We are one of the most generous and giving communities.”
An online Canada Helps Giving Tuesday list for Langley included close to 100 potential beneficiaries, either based in or operating in Langley Township and Langley City.
For Giving Tuesday, Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) was suggesting donations to help Charlie, a seven-year-old Maltese/Bichon cross who needs knee surgery.
“Please keep sweet Charlie in your plans as we are still only half way to our fundraising goal for his much needed surgery,” an online LAPS message said.
“This poor boy has had a very tough go but we’re going to do our best to turn life around for him.”
Charlie’s operations are estimated to cost $4,000.
Last year, participating charities raised over $16.2 million on Giving Tuesday in Canada.
