One of Canada’s most unique choral ensembles is coming to Maple Ridge to give an uplifting and timeless holiday performance.
Musica intima Vocal Ensemble, along with the Triology Jazz Ensemble will be performing “Winter Morning Walks”, originally a multiple GRAMMY award-winning album of two song cycles by composer and arranger Maria Schnieder
Schnieder has won seven GRAMMY Awards in both classical and jazz music and for her collaborations with David Bowie.
“Winter Morning Walks” is based around nine short poems by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Ted Kooser, who painted a winter landscape moving from the winter solstice to the vernal equinox.
It was then arranged by BC jazz legend Rejean Marois.
Musica intima Vocal Ensemble was formed in 1992, and is a Vancouver- based professional vocal collective of the highest standard, serving a mission to connect, inspire, and profoundly move people through intimate and collaborative vocal experiences in many different musical genres.
They have recorded 10 albums and commissioned 27 choral compositions to date—every single one from a Canadian composer.
Their collaborations include internationally renowned artists such as British cellist Steven Isserlis, Pulitzer-Prize winning composers Julia Wolfe and Caroline Shaw, and master improviser and vocalist Bobby McFerrin with whom they performed at the Chan Centre in 2019.
In addition to touring throughout Canada, the ensemble has given recent performances in the United States, Denmark, Ireland, France and Korea.
“Winter Morning Walks” will be performed with Triology, made up of award-winning jazz musicians: Jodi Proznick on bass, Miles Black on piano and Bill Coon on guitar – alongside other seasonal festive favourites.
Tickets to the concert are $31, which takes place from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7, at The ACT Arts Centre, 11944 Haney Place, Maple Ridge.
The concert, presented by Arts On Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, is around 90 minutes plus a 20 minute intermission.
