SD42’s Late French Immersion program will be moving schools starting in the 2026/27 school year.
A decision was made by the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows School District to move the program from Golden Ears Elementary to Eric Langton Elementary to relieve space pressures at Golden Ears, which is currently at capacity, with a wait list.
Students at Eric Langton, on the other hand, will have a new building, and modern classrooms, come next school year, and there will be more room for growth, explained SD42 about the decision.
Also the program will be placed in a larger French immersion community that will include more French-speaking educators, support staff, and a French-speaking principal, explained the school district, noting that the move will help balance enrolment across schools while supporting long-term planning for the district.
The transition will begin in September 2026.
To make the transition smooth, the current group of Grade 6 late French immersion students will remain at Golden Ears Elementary to complete Grade 7 in the 2026/27 school year.
And, students who are currently in Grade 5 across the district, and who wish to enrol in the Late French Immersion program next school year, will begin the program at Eric Langton Elementary next September.
The program serves students in Grades 6 and 7.
Students begin French Immersion in Grade 6 after completing their early elementary years in the English program.
Registration for Late French Immersion will take place through the district’s online portal starting Feb. 11, 2026.
An in-person parent information session will be held at Eric Langton Elementary, 12138 Edge St, Maple Ridge, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2026.
