Adrian Kempe scored the winning goal in overtime, lifting the Los Angeles Kings to a 2-1 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks in NHL action Saturday at Crypto.com Arena.
Anze Kopitar had the other goal for L.A. (12-6-7), with Anton Forsberg making 19 saves for the goaltending win.
Evander Kane scored for Vancouver (10-13-3), with Kevin Lankinen taking the loss in goal, stopping 21 of 22 shots.
There were three disallowed goals within the first five minutes of the contest. Just 36 seconds in, the Canucks thought they had scored but a replay showed the puck didn’t quite cross the goal line.
At 2:44, the Kings thought they had taken the lead on a Trevor Moore goal, but the Canucks were successful in challening the play as offside. Two minutes later, Vancouver’s Aatu Räty tipped a Quinn Hughes shot past Forsberg, but the Kings got some payback, also successfully challenging for offside.
Kopitar tallied the first goal that actually counted at 17:19 of the first, firing a shot from the slot past Lankinen. Kopitar, who is retiring at the end of this season, has 62 points in 71 career games against the Canucks.
Shots on goal after 20 minutes favoured the Canucks, 7-6.
Kane tied it for the Canucks at 1-1 2:52 into the second, stepping out of the penalty box, taking a Drew O’Connor pass and beating Forbert stick-side on a breakaway. Kane now has five goals on the season.

The Kings held a 13-12 shots advantage after two periods.
In the third, the teams exchanged several good chances but were unable to score and headed to three-on-three overtime.
Shortly after L.A.’s Brandt Clarke hit the goalpost in OT, Kempe scored the winner at 3:58 of OT, finding a wide-open net after a scramble in the Vancouver zone. The Canucks challenged for goaltender interference, but the play stood.
The Canucks return to action Tuesday (6 p.m.), when they visit the league-leading Colorado Avalanche.
NOTES: Vancouver was 0-for-3 on the power play, while the Kings were scoreless on four chances with the man advantage… The Canucks held a 31-27 advantage in faceoffs and outhit the Kings 16-14… Hughes played 30 minutes and 13 seconds to pace the Canucks.
