Trucker allegedly impersonates brother to get around driving ban: Burnaby RCMP

Officers were in for more than the usual safety and licensing violations when they pulled over a dump truck during a commercial vehicle inspection on Lougheed Hwy on Nov. 18.

Although the truck was pulled over for having illegible dangerous goods signage, officers found out the driver had been prohibited from driving due to an impaired driving offence, according to a news release Wednesday (Nov. 26).

Burnaby RCMP alleged the man was impersonating his brother to get around his driving ban. Police said the man’s brother was in the truck with him.

An investigation has been opened and although charges have not yet been laid, police said the driver faces a number of possible charges including impersonation and obstruction.

The 40 vehicles examined as part of the one-day inspection turned up a total of 99 violations, resulting in 54 tickets being issued.

More than half of the vehicles had violations severe enough to render them unfit for the road and 21 vehicles were placed out of service.

A larger-scale inspection conducted by BC Highway Patrol earlier in the year also showed more than half of inspected vehicles had to be taken out of service.
