Flames game will feature tribute to coach ‘Hakker’

Tonight’s (Nov. 21) Ridge Meadows Flames game will offer a pre-game tribute to the Flames late coach Martin Hak.

“Hakker” was a Flames assistant coach during their two championship seasons, and went on to be head coach of the Mission City Outlaws for this campaign. His family and many friends will be in attendance.

Hak, 47, was killed in a car crash on Nov. 9, near the intersection of 128th Avenue and Laity Street.

A gofundme.com fundraiser to help the much-loved coach’s family through financial hardship has so far seen more than $38,000 donated. The 50/50 proceeds from the game will be added to the fund, while Chambers Plan has offered to match that donation to the gofundme.

The tribute will start at 7 p.m., and hockey will start at 7:30 p.m., as the Flames take on the Coastal Tsunami from Gibsons.

The Flames are coming off a 7-4 win over the Langley Trappers on Wednesday night. Defenceman Tyler Blatz scored twice and was the game’s first star, while second star Sam Allen managed the Gordie Howe hat trick – a fight, a goal and an assist. Actually, the veteran forward had two helpers.

Erik Sollied, Josh Bettesworth, Jacob Roche and Zack Lagrange each scored for the Flames.

Former Flame Dalton Toma had a goal and an assist for the Trappers.
