Maple Ridge Concert Band putting on special performance

Maple Ridge Concert Band will be joining forces with the Westview Secondary School Senior Concert Band for an upcoming concert called “A Cornucopia of Music”.

All three programs of concert band will be performing including the ABC Beginner Band – a learning program for music reading and raw beginners wanting to learn how to play an instrument; the Intermediate Band for more advanced musicians who have had previous music skills or want to learn a new instrument; and the Performance Band, the feature band group that performs at community events such as Remembrance Day, Santa Parade, Canada Day, Pitt Meadows Day and various concert events.

“We are always looking for new members that play concert band wind instruments,” said Gale Yip with the concert band.

Maple Ridge Concert Band just celebrated more than 80 years of performing in the community and the 30th anniversary of the bandstand in Memorial Peace Park downtown Maple Ridge, which was built as an initiative undertaken by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88 and the concert band.

On May 7, 1994, the Maple Ridge Concert Band presented the Bandstand to the city as a gift to the people of Maple Ridge.

The upcoming concert will feature conductor John van Deursen who will be conducting the concert band, Geeta Da who will be conducting the Intermediate and ABC Concert Bands, and Linda Jensen who will be conducting the Westview Secondary Senior Concert Band.

“A Cornucopia of Music” takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the multipurpose room at Westview Secondary School, 20905 Wicklund Ave., Maple Ridge.

Admission is by donation and both cash and card will be accepted.
