The Thomas Haney Craft Fair, the largest student-run craft fair in B.C., is returning this weekend, Nov. 22 and 23.
The growing fair will feature more than 160 vendors from across the province, and run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Thomas Haney Secondary School (23000 116 Ave.).
The Thomas Haney Food Truck Festival will be on site with more than 10 eateries on wheels, including mini-doughnuts, Flavour Junction, Kona Ice, and Rolled West Coast all returning. New to this year will be The Mad Greek, Tacosaurus, The DOG Father, On wheels Food Corner, Cowboy Smokehouse and Pop Culture Dirty Soda.
All money collected from the event goes directly to benefit the school. Last year organizers were able to offer $2,500 in scholarships using the leadership based Happening Citizenship Award. They also donated $10,000 to the tech department for the purchase of new equipment, $2,000 to the gardening club to replace stolen power tools, and donated a complete set of storage bins and a new event cart for student council.
”We use this event to improve not only our community, but also our school,” noted Reece Reichelt executive director of the fair.
Changes for this year’s fair include a lower floor seating area across from the cafeteria that will include more tables and chairs, and site maps showing various vendors will be available.
As in past years, a branded bag made from recycled materials will be available for $1.50, or customers can purchase a canvas tote bag designed by local Indigenous artists for $10.
A vendor item raffle will be held, thanks to generous product donations from vendors. Tickets will start at 1 for $3, 3 for $5 and 10 for $10. Draws to be held on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Thomas Haney Thunder Culinary Program is ready to serve guests, with a menu that will feature soups, sandwiches, paninis, pastries and various coffee products. They’ll be featured on our lower level with a dining/seating area.
