The free AHL game of the week promotion began last season and each game is announced during the week by both FloHockey and the AHL.
The Canucks and Gulls have met 23 times historically, with the Canucks holding the advantage with 15 wins. The clubs met eight times last season and each team won four times. The last time the two teams clashed was on April 2, 2025 in San Diego and Abbotsford earned a 6-3 win. Abbotsford got goals from Arshdeep Bains, Dino Kambeitz, Ty Muller, Akito Hirose, Kirill Kudryavtsev and Max Sasson in the victory. Nikita Tolopilo recorded 23 saves for the win.
San Diego sits in seventh place in the Pacific Division with a record of 5-4-3-0, while Abbotsford ranks 10th in the division at 3-9-0-2. The Gulls are led by longtime Canucks pest Matthew Phillips, who has 13 points in 12 games. Phillips was a star player in the past for the Calgary Wranglers and Colorado Eagles. Rookie forward Tim Washe also has 12 points in 12 games for the Gulls. Former Abbotsford Canucks forward Justin Bailey has contributed with five goals for the Gulls.
Abbotsford snapped a franchise record 11-game losing streak with a 4-3 shootout win over the San Jose Barracuda on Wednesday (Nov. 12). The Canucks are looking to match the season record for consecutive wins with two. Abbotsford’s top scorer so far this season is Ben Berard with eight points, while Jospeh Labate has a team-high five goals.

San Diego’s Pechanga Arena opened in 1966 and has tremendous sports history attached to it. It was previously the home of the NBA’s San Diego Rockets (before they moved to Houston in 1971) and then the San Diego Clippers (before they moved to Los Angeles in 1985).
The arena also hosted the 1973 Muhammed Ali vs. Ken Norton boxing fight. Norton won that bout in a 15-round split decision.
Other memorable sports events at the arena include: the 1971 NBA all-star game, the 1975 NCAA men’s basketball Final Four, WWF Vengeance 2001 and several UFC events.
Performers at Pechanga include a who’s who of greats including: Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, The Grateful Dead, Queen, The Bee Gees, ABBA, Bob Marley, Van Halen, Janet Jackson, Metallica, Nirvana, Madonna and many more.
The arena is also the current home of the National Lacrosse League’s San Diego Seals.
The Abbotsford Canucks vs. San Diego Gulls regular season game tonight will add to the rich history of Pechanga Arena starting at 6 p.m.
