A high streamflow advisory is in effect for the parts of the province, including the Fraser Valley, south coast and Lillooet River
The B.C. River Forecast Centre issued the advisory on Thursday morning (Nov. 13) for Lower Fraser tributaries, as well as tributaries around Howe Sound, Sunshine Coast, Sea-to-Sky and North Shore Mountains.
According to the centre, a high streamflow advisory comes into effect when river levels are either rising or expected to rise rapidly, but no major flooding is projected.
“Fast-flowing bodies of water increase risk to life safety. Minor flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” the advisory reads.
The River Forecast Centre noted heavy rainfall expected in parts of the province that could lead to snowmelt at mid-elevations.
“Rivers are flowing at seasonal to above-seasonal rates due to periods of precipitation over the past week or two,” the advisory reads.
Peak river levels were expected yesterday (Nov. 13) and into today (Nov. 14).
“Heavy rain and high streamflow bring increased risk for unstable banks, river erosion, submerged roads, swift water hazards, flooding and landslides. Stay clear of the banks of swift running rivers and never drive across flooded roads, bridges or river crossings,” the advisory reads.
Conditions will be monitored by the River Forecast Centre.
