The last Repair Cafe of 2025 is coming up next Saturday, Nov. 22.
Some of the interesting items brought over this year’s fix-it events were a barometer, a toy light saber, and an inflatable costume.
The Ridge Meadows Recycling Society’s event happens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maple Ridge Library (22470 Dewdney Trunk Rd.).
The society has kept thousands of items out of the landfill through their popular, monthly Repair Cafes. Residents can bring their broken items and get assistance and advice from experienced volunteers. Volunteers have fixed small appliances, toys, jewelry, furniture, clothing, bikes, anything that needs gluing, and more.
“We have had a very successful Year Eight,” said Leanne Koehn, Ridge Meadows Recycling spokesperson.
“In 2025 we held our 50th Repair Cafe, had our 3000th item brought for fixing, and over 70 amazing volunteers stepped up to help people fix their broken stuff.”
Koehn founded the local Repair Cafes in 2018, and has since helped other municipalities and organizations interested in launching their own repair events.
Maple Ridge Repair Cafes are currently listed as fifth in the world for repairs, bringing international attention to the city. It is the cafe listed outside of the Netherlands, where the concept originated.
“We’ve had 30 new people join our volunteer roster this year,” Koehn continued. “It’s great to see kids helping at Tinkerbell Station, then becoming interested in other repair stations, becoming apprentices and learning from experienced mentors.”
