Thousands of socks were donated at this year’s Socktober Sock Drive put on by Stop Overdose Ridge Meadows, (STORM).
This year 1,068 pairs of socks were donated to the cause and will be distributed to those in need for the winter season.
“We are thrilled to continue the great tradition of Socktober and see the direct impact when we hand out socks to our unhoused and marginally housed neighbours on our outreach efforts,” said Jerrica Hackett, project coordinator with STORM, on the group’s Facebook page.
Sock collections took place throughout the month of October at 10 businesses across Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
The socks have been divided into 100 count bags, noted Hackett, and will be spread to community partners who provide outreach and community services to those in need.
“Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows we can’t thank you enough for giving generously to such an important cause! Thank you to our amazing local businesses for hosting, soliciting family and friends and pickle ball teams to donate, posting on social media to keep the donations coming in and making your business not just a place for profit but a place for community and for good,” added Hackett.
