Tokens of gratitude: Thank you for your service

There are a few freebies available for local veterans and active service members this Remembrance Day.

TransLink has confirmed that it will once again offer free transit on Tuesday, Nov. 11, while a local convenience store will be offering a free coffee that day in recognition of their service and sacrifice.

Customers who are eligible for free transit include veterans, active members of the Canadian Armed Forces, police and fire personnel, Canadian Coast Guard members, officers from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and BC Ambulance Service personnel.

These individuals can present their badge, military ID, veteran’s service card, or appear in uniform to access free transit.

Veterans and other eligible customers do not need to tap their Compass Card for buses and HandyDART trips, while an accessible fare gate at SkyTrain and SeaBus stations will remain open between 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. West Coast Express is not operating that day.

Ahead of Remembrance Day, TransLink is also recognizes National Indigenous Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 8, in honour of the sacrifices made by Indigenous veterans, and their role in supporting peace and security around the world.

In the meantime, Circle K stores will be offering a free medium coffee (including hot cap, tea, and iced coffee) to all veterans and active service members, all day, at participating locations across Canada, said spokesperson Alexandra Drake.

In honour of Remembrance Day, Circle K is acknowledging and thanking those who have served, with what she describes as a small token of appreciation for their contributions.

“We believe this simple act of recognition can make a meaningful difference to those who have given so much,” Drake said.

“This gesture is a heartfelt thank you for their immense sacrifices and dedicated service to our country. As Remembrance Day approaches, we believe it’s crucial to acknowledge and appreciate those who have served,” she concluded.
