A Maple Ridge hockey player is winning accolades in the NCAA.
Aurora Kahlert, a freshman who is playing with the University of New Hampshire (UNH), was named Hockey East Defender of the Month on Wednesday (Nov. 5). The nomination marks Kahlert’s second award of the season, previously winning Hockey East Player of the Week on Oct. 13.
Kahlert, 18, opened her collegiate career on a strong note, logging her first career point with the opening goal in UNH’s 3-0 win over Assumption on Oct. 4, kickstarting a three-game point streak that saw Kahlert log an assist and goal in the Wildcats’ series with Union the following weekend (Oct. 10-11).

Kahlert went on to tally an assist in New Hampshire’s 5-2 win over Merrimack (Nov. 1), closing her month with four points (2g, 2a), the highest total among defenceman for the Wildcats.
In addition, Kahlert blocked 14 shots and earned a team-leading plus-nine rating through New Hampshire’s first 10 games of the season, tied with Holy Cross’ Violet Carroll for the highest total across Hockey East.
Playing in the Hockey East, she is in a league that is one of the tops in the U.S., regularly sending teams to the NCAA Tournament.
Kahlert was picked for Team BC, and played for Vancouver North East Chiefs of the BCEHL, and the Pacific Steelers of the JWHL.
