A much loved festive children’s freecycle event is back in Maple Ridge with the addition of books.
Until Friday, Nov. 21, the public are invited to drop off clean, gently used children’s clothing and books at the front foyer of Eric Langton Elementary School for the Community Children’s Clothing Freecycle.
The freecycle began in May 2010 as an initiative of The Hive Neighbourhood Centre at Eric Langton, explained Virginia Tong, president of the Eric Langton Elementary PAC.
Since then, with the support of the Eric Langton PAC, it has become a valued twice-annual community tradition, helping families find a home for clothing their children have outgrown while also easing the strain on household budgets.
“The freecycle is such a wonderful example of how our community comes together to support one another,” added Tong.
School principal Kyla Cameron is pleased about the new collaboration this year with the Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Community Literacy Committee, noting that books encourage early literacy and a love of reading.
“Including children’s books this year gives families one more way to share, learn, and grow together,” Cameron said.
The Kiwanis Club of Golden Ears will be adding to the festive atmosphere by continuing their tradition of providing hotdogs, drinks, and treats.
Everyone is welcome to take part in the great community event from 11-2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, in the Eric Langton Elementary gymnasium at 12138 Edge St., Maple Ridge.
