Kamloops RCMP locked down NorKam Secondary School and surrounding schools following a report of a person in a school with a gun on Thursday.
According to police, officers responded to the school just before 2 p.m.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the nearby schools were kept on a hold and secure until police could gather more information related to the call,” said Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. “We are working with our School District 73 partners throughout this incident.”
Then, at about 3:20 p.m., nearby schools were released, and the hold and secure was cancelled.
NorKam Secondary School was then placed on a hold and secure as police helped students unite with parents and make arrangements to get them home.
This continues to be an active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to please call the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and city file 2025-37145, said Cpl. Napier.
