BC Ferries cancels afternoon sailings between Victoria and Tsawwassen

BC Ferries has cancelled four sailings between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay on Thursday, Nov. 6, due to high winds forecast by Environment Canada for the Strait of Georgia.

The affected sailings include the 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. departures from both Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay.

Shortly before 11 a.m., the company said the cancellations were made “to ensure the safety of customers and crew.” Other sailings on the route are expected to proceed as scheduled.

BC Ferries said that “due to the higher operating parameters of our Coastal Class vessels,” the 2 and 6 p.m. sailings out of Tsawwassen, and the 4 p.m. departing Swartz Bay will operate as scheduled.

The Spirit Class vessels are expected to resume service with their 7 p.m. departures.

Customers with bookings on the cancelled sailings will be contacted by BC Ferries to see if they can be accommodated on a later sailing or if their booking will be refunded. Alternate service is available via the Tsawwassen–Duke Point (Nanaimo) route.
