Arts council assures no client personal info going to City of Maple Ridge

The Maple Ridge Pitt Meadows Arts Council is assuring clients that they won’t be sharing personal information with the city.

This comes as the City of Maple Ridge is poised to take over operations of the facility as of Jan. 1.

“We want to assure that your personal information—email, phone number, address, credit card details, or donation history—will never be shared with the City of Maple Ridge or anyone else,” said the arts council in a letter.

“Any communications you receive about Arts Council programs will come only from the Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows Arts Council,” read the letter.

However, anyone registering for any Arts Learning Programs from now until Dec. 31, or anyone who has signed up for volunteer shifts on Better Impact, will be redirected to city-managed software where information will be stored by the city, not the arts council.

City of Maple Ridge Mayor Dan Ruimy announced on Monday, Sept. 8, that city staff had been directed to assume responsibility of operations of The ACT Arts Centre beginning on the first day of the new year, after about a year and a half of failed discussions with the arts council on an operating agreement moving forward.

The arts council also noted, if a person emails city staff or council, their email address may be retained by the city.

For questions about the City’s use of personal information, the arts council is asking clients to email the city at: theact@mapleridge.ca.

“Your trust is important. We use your information only to provide updates and opportunities you’ve opted in for,” said the arts council.
