Injury-ravaged Canucks drop 5-2 decision to Minnesota Wild

Vladimir Tarasenko had a goal and two assists, leading the Minnesota Wild to a 5-2 win over the visiting Vancouver Canucks in NHL action Saturday at the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul., Minn.

Marco Rossi, Vinnie Hinostroza, Jonas Brodin and Ryan Hartman also scored for the Wild (4-6-3), with Filip Gustavsson making 26 saves for the win in goal.

Drew O’Connor had both goals for the injury-ravaged Canucks (6-7-0). Thatcher Demko took the loss, stopping 22 shots.

The Wild opened the scoring 15:53 into the first period, when Tarasenko made a slick move in front of Demko and slipped home his second of the season.

Shots at the end of one period were 6-4 in favour of Minnesota.

O’Connor drew the Canucks even at 5:34 of the second, knocking home a rebound of a Mackenzie MacEachern shot. It was MacEachern’s first point as a Canuck.

Rossi restored the one-goal Minnesota lead on the power play at 13:49, converting a rebound off a point shot to the left of Demko.

Minnesota held a 19-16 shots advantage after 40 minutes.

In the third, Hinostroza went end-to-end and managed to get a shot past the glove of Demko for his first of the season at 4:07.

A soft goal from Brodin at 5:46 made it 4-1. He launched a harmless looking shot that went off the catching glove of Demko and fell in behind the Vancouver goalie.

O’Connor pulled the Canucks within two at 4-2 at the seven-minute mark. Aatu Raty won a faceoff and the puck came to O’Connor, whose shot beat Gustavsson.

Hartman scored into an empty net at 16:43 to round out the scoring.

The Canucks visit the Nashville Predators Monday (5:30 p.m.).
