Teams gearing up for 4th annual Dancing in the Ridge

Seven local teams and will be performing in this year’s Dancing in the Ridge fundraiser to raise money for the Maple Ridge Community Foundation’s Community Chest Program.

Inspired by the hit television show “Dancing with the Stars”, local teams will take the stage in the fourth annual event to compete in front of a panel of judges, showcasing everything from hip-hop to contemporary routines.

No dance experience was necessary for this competition. Representatives from partner dance studios guided the contestants in creating a professional-looking routine.

Money raised goes towards helping those in need in the community to get them through an emergency, whether that be rent to avoid eviction, or financial help through a medical procedure, or other need.

In the lead-up to the event the community foundation announces the teams online. So far, five teams have been announced.

Representing Fort Langley, Ayanna and Lani are the Miss Steps. The duo have been practising out of Inspire Women’s Fitness Langley, owned by Ayanna, a member-driven studio for women.

The Community Services Stepsters will also be taking their moves to the dance floor to show what teamwork and heart can accomplish. They have been practising out of DanceFX.

Winners of last year’s competition, Guardians of a Wishing Well will be returning in a piece called “Restoring the Faith,” a moving reflection on believing again, kindness in the community, and the strength it takes to step forward when times feel uncertain.

“It’s about the moments when others walk beside us, lift us up, and remind us that we go further when we step together,” explained dancers Tyson and Dakota online.

Meadow Ridge Rotary Mighty Ducks took a one year hiatus from the competition, and are keeping their routine a secret.

“They were a fan favourite back in 2023, so we can’t wait to see what they have in store this time,” said the Maple Ridge Community Foundation.

Bells and Whistles Burlesque, a non-profit society that brings classic burlesque productions to Maple Ridge, will have a selection of their dancers competing for top honours.

The society strives to welcome every type of talented human body on stage—all ages, sizes, gender expressions, colours, mobility levels, and backgrounds.

In addition to the teams who are part of the competition, there will be four special performances by Cirque des Morts, Blue Crane Contortion, Garibaldi Interdisciplinary Arts Academy, and local comedian Jackie Amsden.

The Maple Ridge Community Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life for everyone who lives in Maple Ridge. Formed in 1976, the foundation has awarded more than $1 million in grants to local charities that provide essential services, enhance public spaces, and create opportunities for growth.

Dancing in the Ridge takes place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, at The ACT Arts Centre at 11944 Haney Place, downtown Maple Ridge.

Tickets are $40 plus fees and can be purchased at: https://theactmapleridge.org/dancing-in-the-ridge-2025.
