L.A. Dodgers trip Blue Jays 3-1 to force Game 7 in 2025 World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers ensured there were no Halloween night treats for the Toronto Blue Jays.

The visiting Dodgers rode six strong innings from starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto and a key two-run single from Mookie Betts to a 3-1 win over the Jays in Game 6 of the 2025 World Series Friday at Rogers Centre.

L.A.’s win evened the best-of-seven series at 3-3, with a winner-take-all Game 7 set for Saturday (5 p.m.), also in Toronto.

Yamamoto, who tossed a complete-game gem in L.A.’s Game 1 series win, allowed just one run on five hits in his six innings Friday, tossing 96 pitches. L.A. scored all of their runs in the third inning off Toronto starter Kevin Gausman, who went six solid innings himself, striking out eight.

After Gausman whiffed five of the first six batters he saw, the Dodgers got to him in the third

Tommy Edman doubled, and with two outs Shohei Ohtani was intentionally walked. Will Smith then doubled with scored Edman, and Betts, who had been struggling at the plate, then singled to score Ohtani and Smith.

Gausman didn’t allow a single baserunner outside of the third inning.

Toronto answered in their half of the third, when Addison Barger doubled (the first hit allowed by Yamamoto) and scored on a base hit by George Springer.

The Jays threatened in the sixth, with Vladimir Guerrero doubling and Bo Bichette walking to put two men on, but Yamamoto struck out Dalton Varsho.

The Dodgers loaded the bases with two out in the top of the eighth, but Jays reliever Seranthony Dominguez struck out Teoscar Hernandez to prevent any further damage.

Springer singled off Roki Sasaki to open the bottom of the eighth. With one out, Sasaki walked Guerrero to bring up Bichette with two runners on. But Bichette popped out and Varsho grounded out to second to end another threat.

Sasaki opened the ninth by hitting Toronto’s Alejandro Kirk in the hand and Myles Straw was brought in to pinch run for the Blue Jays catcher. Addison Barger ripped a shot to left centre field, but it wedged under the fence and was deemed a double, even as Straw and Barger both rounded the bases. They were sent back to second and third.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts brought in Tyler Glasnow, usually a starter, to quell the uprising. Glasnow got Ernie Clement on an infield popup on the first pitch he threw. Andres Gimenez then lined a shot to left field, which was caught by Enrique Hernandez, who doubled off Barger at second to end the game.

NOTES: Clement had two hits for the Jays… Toronto was just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position… There have been 40 previous decisive Game 7s in MLB history. The home team has won 19 of those… The Jays have 54 come-from-behind wins this season.
