BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) is investigating if there is “criminal cause” after a Mission woman was killed during a two-vehicle collision on Highway 1 near Hope.
BCHP is looking for witnesses, and dash cam footage, after a 29-year-old woman was confirmed dead on scene Thursday night (Oct. 30) when a white Hyundai SUV collided with a black Hyundai sedan near Laidlaw.
According to police, the driver of the sedan, a 65-year-old Agassiz man, was airlifted to the hospital for serious injuries. The driver of the SUV, along with two passengers, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
The deceased, and the other two passengers, were travelling in the black Hyundai.
BCHP, who has taken over the case, said that “criminality cannot be ruled out” as a cause of the crash.
“Hope and Agassiz RCMP got to the scene immediately, but BC Highway Patrol has now taken conduct because we cannot rule out a criminal cause for this crash,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “We will need to investigate thoroughly, gather dash camera video, and speak to more witnesses to get a conclusive idea of what happened.”
The crash, which took place on the westbound lane, closed the highway in both directions for several hours. According to Drive BC, the crash was cleared at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday (Oct. 31).
Anyone with any information (such as concerning behaviour from the vehicles’ drivers), or dash cam footage, is asked to call BC Highway Patrol – Chilliwack at 604-702-4039 and quote file (1501) 2025-46642.
