City of Abbotsford named one of Canada’s top employers

Not all employers are made equal, with the City of Abbotsford standing out as a top contender for job seekers after being named one of the best places to work in 2025.

Every year, Canadian HR Reporter publishes its list of the best companies to work for in Canada, and the City of Abbotsford is making its first appearance on the list this year.

The city is one of four workplaces in the 500-plus employees category, sharing the spotlight with Bethesda Community Services, CAA Club Group of Companies, and Pet Valu Canada.

Abbotsford Mayor Ross Siemens said that the city recognizes that the employees are the backbone of local government and are responsible for delivering consistently high-quality services to the community.

“One of council’s key strategic priorities is ensuring our workforce is involved, safe, and engaged,” said Siemens.

“We are proud to foster a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and connected to meaningful public service, making Abbotsford a great place to live, play, and work.”

In order to make it onto the Canadian HR Reporter list, an employer must have an overall job satisfaction rating of at least 75 per cent.

Achieving this will require a company to embrace certain aspects, such as offering flexible work options, which recruitment consultant agency Robert Walters said has seen the biggest jump in employee preference since 2023.

However, medical and dental coverage still remain the most important factors for employees when choosing a new job.

With Robert Walters reporting that approximately 26 per cent of employees are looking for a new job in the second half of 2025, having a reputation for being a good employer will be a significant advantage for companies across all sectors.

This is especially true in B.C., where Statistics Canada revealed that only 67.8 per cent of workers were satisfied with their jobs at the end of 2022.

Manitoba and Saskatchewan were the only provinces with lower job satisfaction rates, making employers with excellent overall satisfaction ratings a somewhat rare occurrence in these provinces.

Among the 25 employers honoured in Canadian HR Reporter’s list, only a handful of them are based in B.C.

The City of Abbotsford claimed that it was able to make the list by creating a working environment that maximizes diverse talents, backgrounds, and perspectives of all employees.
