Maple Ridge celebrates National Child’s Day with Playfest

A special day for children and families is coming in Maple Ridge’s Playfest event, which includes a Science World road show, a comedian, a pajama party, and more.

Families are invited to celebrate National Child’s Day with two days of fun and creativity at Playfest, taking place Nov. 21 and 22 at the Albion Community Centre.

Hosted by the City of Maple Ridge, Playfest will bring families together to honour children’s rights and the importance of play in childhood development through engaging performances, activities, and hands-on experiences for all ages.

The festivities kick off with a Children’s Pajama Performance Night on Friday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring interactive, family-friendly entertainment including the Science World – On the Road Show, which is a high-energy, educational science experience.

The evening will also feature ventriloquist Kellie Haines bringing comedy, puppets, and imagination brought to life on stage

Tickets are required for attendance, with a family pass for $30 (2 adults, 2 children, includes popcorn and drink), children 15 and under $5, and adults $18. Tickets and full event details are available at MapleRidge.ca/PLAYfest

On Saturday, Nov. 22 the fun continues with a free family event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., including:

• Arts and crafts

• Bouncy castles

• Early years play spaces

• Face painting

• Youth vendor market

• Rights of the Child art project with artist Alex Neff

• Food trucks

“From science and art to laughter and play, this event highlights our community’s commitment to creating spaces where children and families can connect, learn, and thrive together,” said Tara Bardej, manager of recreation and community programs.

National Child’s Day is celebrated across Canada on Nov. 20 to recognize the importance of children’s rights and the collective commitment to upholding them. Established through the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), it highlights every child’s right to be safe, healthy, and heard.
