Mylie Andre Barron pleaded guilty to one count of interference with a dead body in relation to the disappearance of Maple Ridge resident Jessica Cunningham.
The guilty plea was entered during a court appearance on Thursday, Oct. 23, in Port Coquitlam.
Cunningham’s remains were discovered inside her Maple Ridge home on Tuesday, Aug. 26.
That day Ridge Meadows RCMP officers were at her home in the 22800 block of Gillis Place gathering information for the missing person investigation when they made the awful discovery.
The 43-year-old had been reported missing in July.
Friends and loved ones held a vigil in front of the house where Cunningham lived on Sunday, Sept. 7, with prayers and a moment of silence.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) had been working with Ridge Meadows RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS), and the BC Coroners Service to advance the investigation.
IHIT is responsible for investigating homicides, suspicious deaths, and high-risk missing person cases where criminality is suspected.
Barron’s next court date will be on Monday, Nov. 10, during which time a psychological report is being undertaken, as part of a pre-sentence report for the judge.
Depending on the completion of the report, Barron may or may not be sentenced on his next court date.
