The Ridge Meadows Minor Hockey Association is hosting hundreds of kids from across the province this weekend, as the annual Hometown Heroes Hockey Tournament this weekend, with final games set for Monday.
The tournament is for the U13 and U15 age groups, with tiers 1-4. It is a large tourney with 60 teams, some coming from as far as Vancouver Island, and American teams including a Portland entry.
The hometown Ridge U15 A4, A1 and A3 teams each started with two wins, with the A1 and A3 teams each scoring 17 goals.
This tournament celebrates some of the top talent from Maple Ridge hockey, with divisions named for NHLers Brendan Morrison, Andrew Ladd, Brad Hunt, Cam Neely and others.
The association hosts four big tournaments, and next up is the Rustlers Remembrance Day Classic for the U11 level on Nov. 6 to 10. The Jim Lindsay Memorial Tournament is another big event on the calendar, just before Christmas on Dec. 18-22, for U18 teams of all levels. The Rustlers Winter Roundup is coming after Christmas, Dec. 27-30, for U7 and U9 rep teams, and U11, U13 and U15 recreational teams.
