It’s going to be a windy, wet Friday for the Lower Mainland and Greater Victoria.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a special weather statement Friday (Oct. 24) cautioning Metro Vancouver residents about potential hazards from the strong winds and rain that are expected, including power outages due to tree damage, water pooling on roads, reduced visibility and poor traction due to fallen leaves.
A strong frontal system will move across the Lower Mainland today, Environment Canada’s statement said, with southeast winds of 60 km/h gusting to 80 km/h expected to affect southern sections of Metro Vancouver this morning.
Winds will ease in the afternoon as the front moves into the interior of the province.
Moderate rain is also forecast Friday for the Lower Mainland, with rainfall amounts for most areas expected to be from 10 to 20 millimetres, with near 30 mm closer to the mountains. Rain will taper to a few showers by Friday evening.
The federal agency reminded drivers and pedestrians to watch for local flooding, as strong winds scatter leaves and can cause water to build up due to blocked drains.
