Volunteer and guest registration are now open for this year’s Help-Portrait Ridge Meadows.
This year they are in need of about 40 volunteers, especially in the area of makeup artists, hair stylists, and photo editors.
“It’s one of the most special holiday events of the year in our community because it gives important memories to families in need,” said organizer Brenda Norrie.
“Lots of families these days struggle to pay rent or put food on the table, so, of course, visits to either Santa or for professional family photos go by the wayside. This gives them those important cherished memories,” Norrie added.
Help-Portrait is a global initiative that takes place in more than 80 countries across the globe.
It is a movement of photographers, editors, make-up artists, hair stylists and volunteers, who come together as one to give back to those in need in our communities by offering free family portraits.
Last year more than 150 people came out for the free event in Maple Ridge where families received a makeover – including hair and makeup – and sat for a professional portrait.
Every family leaves with one free, framed 8×10 photo.
This year the event will be taking place on Sunday, Nov. 30, at Golden Ears United Church, 22165 Dewdney Trunk Rd, Maple Ridge.
“Our volunteers love this day, a short window of time that’s really fun and gives so much back to others,” said Norrie.
