A 15-year-old Edmonton teen that was already in custody has now had charges of terrorism, violating a terrorism peace bond and child pornography offences added against them.
On Oct. 2, the RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team arrested the youth, who can’t be identified because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The teen was being held at the Edmonton Youth Offender Centre subject to a terrorism peace bond pursuant to s. 810.011 of the Criminal Code – ‘Fear of terrorism offence’ in relation to allegedly escalatory behaviour in a February 2025 incident.
According to the RCMP, the youth’s personal devices had been examined following their initial arrest, and evidence gathered supported the charges laid on Oct. 2.
The youth has now been charged under the Criminal Code with:
– Participation in activity of terrorist group
– Facilitating terrorist activity
– Willful promotion of hatred
– Uttering threats
– Possession of child pornography, and
– Failure to comply with a sentence or disposition
They have also been charged with failure to comply with a sentence or disposition contrary to section 137 of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The youth remains in custody at the Edmonton Youth Offender Centre and is scheduled to appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Edmonton on Oct. 24, 2025.
