Ghosts, ghouls, and goblins invaded Memorial Peace Park Saturday night for Celebrate the Night.
The free family event attracted hundreds of people, despite the rain, and featured light installations, lanterns, crafts for the children, live entertainment, and a costume contest.
A colourful carousel was set up on the south west side of the park, while roaming entertainers dazzled the crowds with juggling tricks.
Braelynn, 5, enjoyed the carousel the most at the festival. It went a little bit fast, she said, and made her dizzy.
She was dressed up as a police officer, because, she thinks they’re “cool”.
“They can chase bad people,” she noted.
This was the first year at the fair for Braelynn and her father Austin Savage, who have lived in Maple Ridge for just over two years.
Savage was enjoying the variety of entertainment at the festival.
“It’s just a neat little neighbourhood event,” he said.
Performers included: West Coast Circus; Balkan Shmalkan whose dance party orchestra filled the night with funky brass dance beats, blended with a mixture of pop and jazz; Blue Crane Contortion; and the travelling carnival band Blackberry Wood.
The night was capped off with a captivating fireworks show from atop city hall.
