VIDEO: Langley driver may lose licence after parking lot burnouts

A young Langley driver lost was arrested and had his truck impounded after he was caught doing burnouts and doughnuts on video in a Brookswood strip mall parking lot.

The incident took place on April 8, when someone at a business at 41 Avenue and 200 Street reported a group of young people causing a disturbance.

Police reviewed surveillance footage and found a driver doing what the RCMP referred to as “stunt driving maneuvers” in the parking lot.

According to Const. Meghan Marsden of the Langley RCMP, several young people were running in the area while the vehicle circled them, creating a significant safety risk. On the video, one of the young people stands in the middle of the lot while the truck does doughnuts around him.

The burnouts also damaged the roadway.

Police analyzed the video, identified the vehicle, and located the driver, who was arrested for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was also ticketed for driving without due care and attention, stunt driving, and failing to display his new-driver’s “N” sign.

His vehicle was impounded for seven days, but officers noticed “numerous vehicle deficiencies” while taking it, and it was ordered to have a full inspection and repairs before it can be driven again.

Officers have forwarded a report on the incident to the Office of the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles and recommend a review of the driver’s licence.

“Dangerous and stunt driving behaviours place everyone at risk, including motorists, pedestrians, and nearby residents,” said Marsden. “Keeping our roadways safe remains a priority. This type of driving behaviour will not be tolerated.”

Police also asked members of the public who see similar burnouts, drag racing, or other dangerous driving to report it to the police. Witnesses are encouraged to safely gather details such as licence plate numbers, vehicle descriptions, locations, and if possible, video footage.
