One person is dead after a crash on Lougheed Highway in east Maple Ridge on Monday.
Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a report of a single motor vehicle incident in the 27400 block of Lougheed Highway at about 12:30 p.m. on May 25.
Officers on scene learned that a vehicle drove over a barrier and then down an embankment.
Police said the driver of the vehicle was treated by Emergency Health Services. But, despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead on scene.
A tarp could be seen on the road beside the embankment surrounded by police vehicles.
There was no impact to traffic along the highway as the incident was within the highway construction zone.
WorkSafeBC said there are supports for workers who may have witnessed the incident.

“The goal is to reduce the distress that workers and employers may experience immediately following an event, and to mitigate the development of further, more serious difficulties,” explained Ashley Gregerson, a spokesperson for the agency.
Any worker or employer who has experienced a critical incident is encouraged to contact WorkSafeBC for support or for more information about the service, said Gregerson.
Workers can call 1-888-922-3700, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
