LETTER: Grateful for science, knowledge, leadership

Dear Editor,

[RE: LETTER – COVID lessons were not lost on many, April 19, www.mapleridgenews.com]

I was so disheartened to read the response from the angry anti-vaxxer from Maple Ridge, listing out the lessons he says ‘we’ learned from COVID.

His final comment was to suggest that the reduced response to the measles vaccine is due to failing respect for those in charge.

History has shown us, over and over again, how biting off your nose to spite your face is-at best-a totally irrational reaction, and the negative consequences to such an individual and his community is incalculable.

It would be easy enough to counter-argue his various assertions with a well-known list of facts, data, and science. But somehow I doubt it would matter to him at all. Anti-vaxxers twist facts and realities into something most reasonable people would not recognize.

One of the many benefits of democracy and freedom is the right for such people to espouse their ‘beliefs.’ However, I can assure you that most of us are grateful for the science, knowledge, and leadership we were so fortunate to be the recipients of here in this country.
