Man linked to Edgewood ostrich protest heads to assault trial

A man facing charges from an assault of a neighbour to the Universal Ostrich Farm (UOF) is heading to trial.

Timothy Regan will be back in Nakusp Provincial Court Oct. 7 and 8 to face three charges.

Regan, 61, is charged with assault, assault with a weapon and mischief of $5,000 or under from an incident on Sept. 22, 2025 in Edgewood.

He was arrested following an altercation that resulted in a 73-year-old female victim needing medical assistance on scene.

“The suspect who was associated to the protest camp on the UOF, was identified and arrested without incident,” said Staff Sgt. Kris Clark in a Dec. 11, 2025 media release.

UOF was the site of a massive protest camp populated by people from across the country who opposed the mass culling of more than 300 ostriches following an avian influenza detection in December 2024.

The protesters’ opposition to the cull was largely grounded in concern over federal government overreach via the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), which carried out the cull in November 2025, nearly 11 months after the avian flu outbreak was declared, and after the farm had fought the cull order at every level of the courts.

The Supreme Court of Canada ultimately dismissed the farm’s application for an appeal of a previous court decision to allow the cull to to ahead.

Regan is not in custody.
